Junior home minister’s house torched

Miscreants set fire to the Pabna Sadar residence of running state minister for law, Shamsul Hoque Tuku, in the early hours of Saturday.

The incident took place amidst Jamaat-e-Islami’s nationwide violence after execution of their leader Abdul Quader Molla.

A group of about seven people hurled petrol bombs at the Bilalpur area house of Tuku around 5am, peon of an office rented in the building, Hafisul Islam said.

The house caught fire before locals rushed and doused flames, he said.

Pabna Sadar police Officer-in-Charge Haniful Islam said law enforcers had rushed to the spot after news of the incident.

“We are trying to bring the perpetrators inside law and take steps,” he said. “Additional law enforcement has been deployed in the area.”

Police were said to have been conducting raids to catch the attackers.

It was after the order of Home Ministry that the execution of Jamaat leader “Butcher of Mirpur” Quader Molla was executed on Thursday.
