Overseas jobseekers’ registration ends

The online registration drive for foreign job seekers starting on September 22, officially ended Saturday with 4,89,681 aspirant job seekers being registered across the country, announced officials of the Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET).

Additional Director General of BMET Jabed Ahmed said: “We are quite happy with the number of registered workers.

Creation of the new database is under process with details of the candidates.”

He said selected candidates from the database would be migrated abroad.

Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Khandker Mosharraf Hossain earlier said: “This new database will incorporate information of all candidates who can register for any job in any country of their choice. It will be a comprehensive database through which we are going to streamline the whole process of immigration and reduce related costs.”

Institute of Information and Communication Technology (IICT) under BUET provided technical assistance to BMET for conducting the online registration.

The registration in Chittagong and Khulna divisions that began on October 6 ended Saturday with 92,663 and 57,014 people being registered in each divisions respectively.

Registration for the country’s remaining five divisions, Dhaka, Barisal, Rajshahi, Rangpur and Sylhet has already ended.

180,950 job seekers registered from Dhaka, 60,974 from Rajshahi, 30,872 from Barisal, 40,985 from Sylhet and 2,570 registered from the Rangpur division.

Talking to the Dhaka Tribune, IICT Director Saiful Islam said the registration had officially ended on Saturday.

However, those who were interested but failed to register could still register at a few Information and Service Centres under Chittagong and Khulna divisions that would remain open till October 14.
