The Rajshahi regional committee of Bangladesh Sarak Paribahan Sramik Federation has decided to continue its indefinite transport strike in eight districts in the division as the negotiation attempt between the administration and workers' leaders was unsuccessful.
The negotiation meeting was held in Bogra district deputy commissioner’s office on Monday afternoon.
According to the meeting source, the administration agreed to accept three out of the ten demands raised by the transport workers. As a result, the worker’s leader announced to continue their strike.
Emerging from the meeting, worker’s leader said they will continue their shut- down until their 10-point demand is met.
Earlier, Kamal Hossain Robi, secretary of the committee, enforced the strike at a press conference at the Bogra Press Club on June 26.
He said that unless the authorities met their demands by June 30, they would start a strike and stop plying Dhaka-bound coaches and other vehicles en-route Bogra.
The 10-point demand includes pay hike; driving licenses on easy terms; ban on plying of unauthorised vehicles like Karimon-Nasimon; removal of roadside markets; and prevention of harassment and extortion by police on the highways.
The leaders of the organisation also demanded that steps be taken by the authorities to stop illegal toll collection on the highways in Natore, Dinajpur and Mohananda bridges.
