DGHS takes 2 months to publish test results

The Director General of Health Services (DGHS) has finally published the results of the written test to fill 915 vacant posts for 3rd and 4th class employees in nine districts, amid allegations of dillydallying due to pressure from influential people who had recommended their own candidates.

According to the results posted on the DGHS website on Monday, 2,745 candidates, out of 66,000, were selected to take the viva test, due to be held early next month at divisional offices.

The written test was held on April 24 in the districts of Narayanganj, Mymensingh, Noagon, Norail, Satkhira, Jessore, Barisal and Noakhali.

According to sources, the test papers were checked and marked centrally on the same day by an OMR (optical mark recognition) machine at the DGHS head office in the capital.

However, the results were not published for two months, allegedly due to huge pressure and recommendation from influential people, including ministers, parliament members, political leaders and doctors, to select their own candidates. Against the 915 posts, there were reportedly about 1,600 strong recommendations.

Meanwhile, Dr Md Shah Newaz, director (administration) and member secretary of the central examination direction committee, said the publication of the results were delayed due to other engagements.

“We had enough time, up to December 31, to complete the appointment process. The fate of the candidates was fixed on April 26 through OMR. The members of examination committee were busy with other work, so the results were published late. There is no other reason behind it,” Dr Newaz told Dhaka Tribune Thursday.

Regarding the alleged pressure, the director said there were a huge number of candidates vying for a few posts, so it is not unusual that some recommendations were made.
