TV activists urge to bring back golden days

With the slogan “Save TV, Save Programme,” the senior actors, directors, producers and other stake holders of the television industry called a conference at the National Press Club at 5pm on May 31.

To save, discipline and strengthen the position of all in the television industry, “Televishion Peshajibi Oikyo Parishad” arranged this conference with the television stars for presenting their demand of eleven points to the government. The reason behind this union is to create a common platform for presenting the struggles faced by the industry due to the boom of TV channels. Since the number of channels has increased, the quality of programmes began failing and remuneration of artists, directors and producers alike are not sufficient to sustain their profession.

The first point demands that importance of broadcasting Bangladeshi channels should be given more priority and the first 25 channels received by cable networks in every home should be Bangladeshi Channels.

The second point demands that the government should remove the 10% tax upon the sales of programmes by private production houses.

Third point states that a body of TV programme directors should be formed and the government should recognise the body.

The other points include regulation for broadcasting advertisements, banning of foreign programmes in local channels, proper execution of copyright law, determine the lowest purchase cost of TV programmes and establish an institute for training individuals for making quality TV shows.
