Mamunur Rashid brings street children to TV

Culture and media activist Mamunur Rashid along with International Child Care Organisation Plan – Bangladesh has arranged theatre performances with street children in various venues, including the National Museum. It took long grooming sessions to make these children presentable for an audience, but it was an enjoyable task as the children are hardworking and eager. This is the first phase of their two step plan for helping the children.

In the second part of their plan, to promote the talent of the unfortunate and underprivileged children, Mamunur Rashid is directing two television drama titled “Akash Kushum,” and “Hiramon.” Both these drams are an adaptation of Tagore’s “Tota Kahini,” and “Dakghor.”

While talking about working on this project Mamunur Rashid shares with Dhaka Tribune: “It’s really tough working with children. But in this case, they are very much talented, hardworking and eager to prove their worth. We just need to take a small step forward to give them a better and prosperous life. It is our duty as responsible citizens to help out those, who are less fortunate than we are.

I have enjoyed a great deal while working with these children who are exposed to the harsh realities of life from a very early stage of their life.”

Street children are ignored by our society, but they are a major part of our country. Our social construction is to blame for these unfortunate children. Proper guidance and love could mould these children as assets of this country.
