President of Rangpur district Awami League unit Abul Monsur Ahmed, 67, died from heart failure at the Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH) on Sunday night.
He had been suffering from cardiac complications for long. Family members said he was hospitalised on Sunday morning after his condition deteriorated.
Ahmed’s body was kept at the Rangpur Awami League office yesterday morning for the party leaders and activists to pay their last respects, and later taken to the Shaheed Minar grounds for the general people.
The first Namaz-e-Janaza was held there at 12:35pm, and the second at the Tajhat Eidgah grounds. He was buried with state honours in a graveyard adjacent to the field.
