This year, the prestigious “Hamidur Rahman Award” was bestowed to the brilliant and legendary artist Rafiqun Nabi at the premises of Bengal Foundation. The renowned artist received this award for his remarkable contribution to Bangladeshi art. Chief guest Borhanuddin Khan Jahangir handed over the award to Rafiqun Nabi.
The legendary artist of the 60s and 70’s late Hamidur Rahman was the architect of Central Martyr Monument of Bangladesh. In order to make his wonderful contribution to this country memorable, his family arranged this award giving ceremony since 2007 along with Bengal Foundation.
Talking about the award Dhaka Tribune, the eminent artist shares:
“It is a great pleasure to receive an award from another artist and a long time colleague. It just gave me another inspiration to work hard and to provide more to this society.”
Rafiqun Nabi’s last solo-show was held on April. He is an expert in the medium and presented landscapes and intimate moments of the daily life of rural people in his last solo show titled “In touch with the real.”
From 1964 to this day, his works has been showcased all around the world several times. Some of the countries where he has participated in group exhibitions are France, Japan, Poland, and Germany. Born in Chapainawabganj in 1943, he retired as a professor and the Dean of Faculty of Fine Arts in 2010. Rafiqun Nabi has achieved “Ekushey Padak” in 1993 for his contribution to fine arts. He is not just an artist and a teacher but also known as Ronobi, the creator of the famous “Tokai” cartoon.
The award giving ceremony was graced by two master artists, Sayd Jahangir and Qayyum Chowdhury as special guests. In their speech at the ceremony, Chowdhury and Jahngir, both walked down the memory lane, to a time when they work together with Nabi and Hamidur Rahman. Borahanuddin Khan also enriched the ceremony with a witty speech.
