Every year on the occasion of Tagore’s birth anniversary on May 8, the city wears a colourful dress of celebrations as it is the occasion which gave birth to thousand reasons why we have a rich cultural heritage. Despite of the unstable political circumstances, this year the cultural organisations have chalked out several programmes to mark the 152nd birth anniversary of the Nobel Laureate.
Rabindra Utsob 1420 by Chhayanut
Chhayanut, a leading cultural organisation will celebrate a two-day festival beginning from Thursday at its auditorium. on Wednesday, an audio album will be launched featuring Tagore’s songs titled “Rabindranather Hatey Hat Rekhe” by the students and teachers of Chhayanut. Through a joint performance of music and dance, “Rabindra Utsob 1420” will be inaugurated. A total of 200 artistes will take part in the festival. An array of inspirational songs of Tagore will be present in the celebrations.
Rabindra Jayanti by Rabindra Sangeet Shilpi Shangstha
Through solo and group musical performances of Tagore’s songs, the curtain is raised on the four – day programme arranged by Rabindra Sangeet Shilpi Shangostha at Shawkat Osman Auditorium of Central Public Library, Wednesday. The event is a tribute to Rabindranath Tagore on his 152nd birth anniversary. Total 160 artists will take part in the programme. This time, they will celebrate Rabindra Jayanti in a short – range schedule to save money from the programme’s fund and make a donation for the Savar victims.
Rabindra Mela by Channel-i
Channel I, will hold “Rabindra Mela” on May 10 at its own premises in Tejgaon. The daylong fair will start at 11:05am and will be inaugurated by renowned artists, litterateurs, Tagore enthusiasts, cultural and media personalities associated with the Channel i family. Apart from art camp, live music, dance and dance drama, there will be 20 stalls at the fair. The event will be telecast live by Channel i.
This year the organisers bestowed lifetime achievement award to eminent writer and educationist, Professor Emeritus Anisuzzaman. A Rabindra Sangeet album featuring records of Bangladeshi diva Sabina Yasmin will be launched at the fair.
