Firefighters rescue trapped cat from secretariat tree

A cat has been rescued from near the top of a tree at the secretariat in the capital on Thursday, three days after it climbed the tree.

Witnesses said the cat climbed up the towering tree on Tuesday after being chased by the dogs living on the premises.

The members of Fire Service and Civil Defence with the help of the employees of the secretariat rescued the cat from a branch approximately 30 feet above the ground and released it safely in the building around 4pm.

The driver of agriculture minister, Asgor Ali Munshi, who took the initial initiative to rescue the starving cat, told reporters: “I first noticed the cat near the top of a tree adjacent to the No 4 building of the secretariat on Tuesday.

“I saw it again on Wednesday. But, this time it moved to another tree. Later, I informed the matter to the members of the Fire Service Unit of the building when I found it trapped on the same tree today [Thursday].”

“Unable to bear its poignant and incessant meowing, I requested some people to take quick initiative. But, none paid heed to my pleas,” added the driver.

He said it was trapped in the tree for approximately three days, and could be heard crying every time people crossed the area.

Fire Service and Civil Defence Inspector Bhoshon Kumar Sarker told the Dhaka Tribune: “Being informed, we rushed to the spot and rescued the cat around 4pm and released it in the building safely. ”

Curious onlookers started to gather around the building when they saw the Fire Service personnel and their vehicle.

The onlookers burst into applause as the cat was rescued unhurt after the half an hour operation.

Later, the secretariat staff fed the starving cat fish and rice.
