The United Nations Children's Emergency Fund (Unicef) has appreciated the role state authorities have played in the successful implementation and execution of the Children Act-2013.
On the other hand, the UN committee expressed its concern on the recent outbreak of violent incidents on children, and proposed lowering the minimum age for girls' marriage.
These observations came in “Fifth Periodic Report of Bangladesh” of the Committee on the Rights of the Child of the Unicef, which was disclosed in a programme held at Bangabandhu International Conference Center on Thursday.
"Bangladesh has made tremendous achievement during this quarter-century long journey considering the changing global situation, all in the best interests of children," said Edouard Beigbeder, UNICEF representative for Bangladesh.
He placed some recommendations related to the child laws, proper allocation, effective inter-ministerial body and awareness campaign on the affects of child marriage.
The report also said Bangladesh has enacted the 2013 Children Act recognising a child till the age of 18 while the benchmark is globally recognised.
The country is among the first few countries who signed and ratified the Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1990. So far 194 countries across the world have ratified it.
