Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has said that law and order situation in Bangladesh is better than in the United States.
Quoting a US-based report, the minister told a programme Friday that Bangladesh ranked 30th position in the index. “I have mentioned about the USA as everyone used the name as an example.”
According to the 2015 Gallup report, Japan and New Zealand all boast the same score (78 points) while Bangladesh on the 30th position. The USA and Australia, meanwhile, are placed at 38th and 39th place.
Kamal made the remark at a programme arranged by expatriate Bangladeshis at the capital's Cirdap auditorium in the afternoon.
He claimed that the government had taken zero-tolerance policy to maintain law and order.
Security arrangements at the airports had been increased as part of the counter-terrorism measures so that every passengers could be safe.
Several countries including the US and the UK recently expressed concern over the security measures at the country's airports. Meanwhile, the US has claimed that international terrorist group Dae'sh (also known as Islamic State) has their activities in Bangladesh, and that it would soon provide the government with information on this.
The Bangladesh government, however, maintains that there is no activity of Dae'sh, and that the recent attacks were perpetrated by local militant groups with the help of BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami.
In his speech, the minister also claimed that the government was trying its best to ensure safety of the expatriates.
At the programme, some expatriates complained that their lands were grabbed by the ruling party men in some districts due to inaction of the police. They urged the home minister to look into the matter.
