Sheikh Russel Aviary and Eco-Park located at Rangunia upazila, Chittagong has already drawn attraction of tourists for it’s unique feature with hill forests, artificial plantations, hillocks, foot hills and ropeway cable car.
The park has been set up on 30 acres of land to keep the memory of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s younger son Sheikh Russel.
The park inaugurated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in 2001 is crowed with a good numbers of visitors during different occasions and it is considered as an ideal picnic spot for nature and bird lovers.
Chittagong South Forest Division has been entrusted with the supervision of the eco-park.
Park sources said a total of five small and big aviaries packed with a number of native and foreign birds, including African Crowned Crane, Flamingo, Pelican, Macaw, Rainbow lory, Rosella, electra’s parrot, Grey Parrot, Turkey, Titir and Peacock are the big attraction of bird lovers.
Moreover, the round trip of the Ropeway is already installed for the observation of the whole the natural topographic view of the park is another attraction for fun lovers.
An artificial lake abundant with large number of colorful duck species and wetland migratory bird species another attractive thing in the park.
Mosiur Rahman, a resident of Dhaka, who went to visit the park yesterday said: “The eco-park is the haven of various flora and fauna while it is also a sanctuary of birds and various species of wildlife which gives the eco-park a different characteristic.”
A bird lover, Babor Khan Riaj, told the Dhaka Tribune that the aviary park might met up bird lovers’ demand as the five cages are packed with full of different birds where it can be considered a source of research”.
Rashed Parvej, a student of Chittagong University (CU), said the experience of the riding on cable car was awesome.
“Many of the city people are still unaware of such an amusement park.”
“If the authority conduct the proper publicity about the park, it will become one of most popular reaction site of the country”, he added.
Bipul Krishna Deb, divisional forest officer (south) in Chittagong, told the Dhaka Tribune that the park authorities had taken additional security measures considering safety of tourists and the number of tourist including foreigners have also been increasing day by day”.
