Environment and Forest Minister Anwar Hossain Manju will launch programme on February 11.

A high-tech TigerCaravan will be introduced as a major tool of the campaign which will visit 100 strategic locations across the country with a mobile exhibition, street theater performance with celebrity engagement and social media activities to educate mass people about the conservation issues related to the tigers and the Sundarbans.

The information came from a press conference held at city's Daily Star Center on Wednesday, jointly organised by the USAID and Wildteam.

The national tiger awareness program is the part of the “USAID's Bagh Project,” a four-year long programme which aims to strengthen local and international efforts to safeguard the mangrove ecosystem, the habitat of Bengal Tigers.

The program is being implemented by Wildteam with the support of Smithsonian Institution and Bangladesh Centre for Advanced Studies.

According to the latest tiger survey held in 2014, currently only 106 tigers are roaming in the Bangladeshi part of the Sundarbans, while the 2004 survey said that it was around 440.

Professionals and related experts said that the number of tigers in Sundarbans has been decreasing due to the poaching, forest depletion and excessive human intervention in the forest.
