Tribunal to collect data against Pakistani POWs

The Investigation Agency of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) will collect "primary data" into the heinous crimes committed by 195 Pakistani military men in 1971.

Mohammad Abdul Hannan Khan, chief coordinator of the agency, said: "We have formed a committee on January 18 and deputy director Motiur Rahman of the investigation agency is heading it.

"This team will collect primary data against the Pakistani military men including the 195 army men who had been repatriated in 1974 to their country under tripartite agreement, accused of leading and carrying out the crimes in the then East Pakistan in 1971."

The step came up on the backdrop of repeated demands by different socio-political groups in Bangladesh to hold trial of those 195 barbaric Pakistani army-men for their monstrous crimes against the freedom loving people of Bangladesh in 1971.

"This team will collect documents about these men including their position, location and their responsibility in 1971. It is not any formal investigation," Khan, with the status of Inspector General of Police, added.

The investigation agency boss also came up with the observations that they will launch formal probe against those 195 Pakistanis once necessary direction from the government is received.
