Edible oil prices cut by Tk5

The government has lowered the prices of all edible oils by Tk5 per litre, effective from tomorrow, as prices have declined in the international market.

Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed made the announcement at Trade Assistance Consultative Committee meeting at his office yesterday.

“From Saturday, All kinds of edible oil will be sold at a reduced price – Tk5 less than the current market prices,” the minister said at the meeting.

“As the edible oil prices in the global market have fallen, I urged the oil traders to lower the local prices by Tk5 per litre, and they agreed.”

Leaders of Bangladesh Vegetable Oil Refiners and Vanaspati Manufacturers Association had initially decided to cut the prices by Tk4 per litre, but later they agreed to reduce Tk5 in response to the minister’s call, said Fazlur Rahman, president of the oil traders platform.

As of yesterday, a litre of Teer brand bottled edible oil was sold at Tk97, Rupchanda brand at Tk 100, Fresh at Tk98, while non-bottled edible oil was sold at Tk88-90 per litre. Five-litre bottle of Fresh and Teer edible oil was sold at Tk480, Veola brand at Tk490 and White Gold rice bran oil at Tk650.

The commerce minister presided over the meeting, which was attended by other senior government officials and top leaders from the business community.
