Bangladesh is ahead of Pakistan in all indexes, and India in several indexes, even though Britain’s The Economist has described us as one of the dirtiest countries, said Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader yesterday.
He said it was a matter of disgrace that the London-based weekly had described Bangladesh this way.
“But we are no longer a poor nation. What we need now is implementation of environmental development projects in addition to national development,” Quader told reporters while opening a car underpass on Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Comilla cantonment area.
He called on all to make personal efforts for keeping the country clean.
The minister said a grand task involving the removal of illegal, unnecessary and political billboards from highways had begun on Friday.
He said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina would open the four-lane Dhaka-Chittagong highway in late May and the first phase of the four-lane project would end within the next 10 days.
