It, however, has no relation with the temporary suspension of the Facebook by the government on security issues.
The meeting with Facebook comes at a time when the social networking platform, which has nearly 1.8 billion users, is suspended in Bangladesh based on security grounds.
On November 30, Tarana Halim sent a letter to Facebook showing her interest in signing a deal to ensure cyber security, especially in a bid to stopping violence against women.

Just one day after sending her letter, Facebook gave their consent to the discussion with Tarana Halim.
The response came as Facebook Public Policy Director for India and South Asia Akhi Das replied to the state minister's email agreeing to sit with the Bangladesh government.
Around 18 million Facebook users in Bangladesh have been without the services of the social networking site since the Supreme Court rejected review petitions by war criminals SQ Chowdhury and Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujahid on November 18.
Citing security reasons, the government also blocked social networking platforms Whatsapp and Viber.
After getting response from Facebook on December 1, Tarana Halim told the Dhaka Tribun that she repeatedly raised the issues, especially about violence against women through Facebook, in different platforms.
Hundreds of women are being victimised everyday, which is alarming for our society and country. But we did not get any positive feedback from authorities concerned (earlier). This time they agreed to sit with Bangladesh.
Meanwhile, the government is planning to write letters to the authorities of search engine giant Google and video-sharing website YouTube about the country's cyber security issues after meeting Facebook officials.
The state minister for telecommunications will urge Google and YouTube authorities to set up admin panels of the two sites in Bangladesh and also a local office so that Bangladesh can remove controversial contents from the sites.
