Atiur urges banks to focus on small loans

Bangladesh Bank (BB) Governor Atiur Rahman has urged the banks for providing small loans as most of the visitors in the banking fair are interested in SME loans.

“Attending the customers at the Banking Fair, most of the Bankers received queries mostly about SME loans from the clients,” said BB governor while addressing the closing ceremony of a five-day long banking fair held at Bangla Academy premises in the city yesterday.

Abdur Razzak, former minister for Food and Disaster Management Ministry, attended the function as chief guest.

The banking fair, first of its kind in Bangladesh, came to an end yesterday with a huge response from the enthusiastic clients.

The fair committee claimed that around 45,000 visitors visited the fair during the five-day long fair.

The central bank governor suggested the banks to introduce customer problem solution mechanism as like as Bangladesh Bank.

The central bank received 3,000 allegations against banks from customers in the last year of which 99% were ressolved, he said.

Atiur also urged the officials of both the central bank and all the schedule banks to hold the fair every year at the same time.

“Banks should also come up with special offers and introduce new products at the fair to attract more customers.”

It is noted here that there was no special offer for the customers at the fair, as a result visitors were seen frustrated.

Half of the visitors were students and their demand was to know whether there was any job opportunity in the banking sector but the banks had no such display for the job seekers.

All the banks were seen displaying their regular products and financial services in their stalls.
