Medical admission seekers on fast till death

The protesting medical admission seekers began observing a fast till death from 10am yesterday at the Central Shaheed Minar in the capital.

Tanvira Biswas, a coordinator of the movement, said they would continue the fast until their demands are met.

On Tuesday, the protesters marched in a rally at the University of Dhaka campus and staged a sit-in at the Central Shaheed Minar, which was interrupted by rain.

Around 55 protesters took part in the fast, including medical admission seekers, guardians, medical students, and later Brigadier General (rtd) Muhammad Enamul Huq, the Minister of State Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, joined the protest as well, said Tanvira .

“A few students are feeling unwell due to the fast. Police, however, interrupted the protesters, demanding they move from the premises,” she added.

Protesters had declared on Tuesday that they would observe a fast till death at the Central Shaheed Minar from yesterday, which marked the 26th day of the protest.

The start of this protest saw a large number of protestors, but that number has seen a recent decrease.

During the demonstration, the medical admission seekers pressed home their demand for the medical admission test to be retaken due to the question paper leak.

Protesters also claimed they have authentic proof that the question papers had indeed been leaked.
