People, living on low lying areas, river and canal banks in Barisal city, have been suffering much due to heavy downpour that began since Sunday morning.
And for this, water logging has created on different areas, crating immense sufferings to the city commuters.
Pronab Kumar Roy, senior observer at Barisal office of meteorological department, said weather in the city and surrounding areas remained rainy with breaks, cloudy with sultriness.
43.2 millimeter rainfall was recorded till 3pm Sunday in last 15-hour from 12am in the areas, he said.
Attendances in different offices, commercial places, financial institutions, educational institutions and movement of transports on roads became fewer than normal week-starting day due to adverse weather condition.
Abul Bashar Majumdar, deputy director (marine safety and traffic management) of BIWTA, said all water transport operations from Barisal and other river ports of the region were asked to hoist weather signal no.1 till filing of this report at 5:25pm.
However water transport operators were asked to operate cautiously following weather condition and reports, said Mustafizur Rahman, Barisal river port official.
Abdur Rashid, deputy director of cyclone preparedness programme (CPP) of Red Crescent at Barisal, said residents on different shoals of the region have been suffering from downpour, but no causality was yet reported.
CPP volunteers remained alert to face any change of condition, said Rashid.
Prodip Chandra, in-charge of Kalapara weather radar station, said sea became rough and weather rainy with gusty wind hoisting weather signal no. 3 at the coastal areas.
All water transports and fishing trawlers and boats were asked to remain at safe shelter due to roughness of sea and estuary, said weather official.
Zahiruddin Ahmed, executive engineer Water Development Board, Barisal office, claimed that rivers in Barisal district are swelling, but still under danger level.
