3 committees to probe emergency landing of PM’s flight

The flight carrying the prime minister landed in Hungarian capital Budapest around 11:05pm Bangladesh time on Sunday, while it was scheduled to land there around 6:45pm. The aircraft, a Boeing 777-300 ER, had to land in Turkmenistan’s capital Ashgabat due to some mid-air technical complications. After completing repair work, the prime minister’s flight finally took off for Budapest around 6:37pm from Ashgabat after a delay of more than four hours. The aircraft took off from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka around 9:14am on Sunday with a high-level delegation. The premier left for Budapest on a four-day bilateral visit in conjunction with Budapest Water Summit 2016. Biman Bangladesh Airlines, Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) and Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry have formed separate committees. The authorities of Biman Bangladesh Airlines have formed a four-member committee to investigate into the emergency landing of the flight. Biman General Manager Shakil Meraj told the Dhaka Tribune: “Chief of Technical Capt Fazal Mahmud Chowdhury will lead the four-member probe body. The committee has been asked to submit its report by December 1.” On the other hand, CAAB Senior Consultant Capt Fariduzzaman will lead the three-member investigation committee. CAAB Public Relations Officer Rezaul Karim said: “The committee has been asked to submit its report within seven working days.” CAAB is the custodian of all airfields and allied facilities in Bangladesh. “Additional Secretary of Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry Shapan Kumar Sarkar will lead the probe body, said Civil Aviation Minister Rashed Khan Menon at a press conference in the secretariat in Dhaka.
