SUST authorities urge resignees to join office

The authorities of Sylhet Sahjalal University of Science and Technology have issued a letter, urging the teachers, who resigned from their administrative posts, to join the office.

The Registrar of the university, Ishfaqul Islam, said the letter was sent to the resignees on Thursday afternoon.

In the letter, the university authorities have requested the teachers to take their charges again, he said.

However, the resignees, organised under the banner of the teachers' forum imbued with the spirit of the Liberation War, vowed not to respond to this call.

In the letter signed by the registrar of the university, said: "I am requesting you [resignees] to take charges of your administrative positions immediately, and cooperate to restore normal activities of the university."

The convener of the teachers' forum, Prof. Syed Shamsul Alam, acknowledged receiving the letter and said they would not retreat from their demand of resignation of the vice-chancellor.

He said: “We are still firm on our demand. There is no question of getting back to office until the VC resigns.”

The forum began the movement demanding resignation of the Vice-Chancellor Aminul Haque on April 13, alleging his misconduct, corruption and irregularities.

On April 20, teachers including Muhammad Zafar Iqbal resigned from 37 administrative posts.
