Ivy: No need of Army deployment

Selina Hayat Ivy yesterday said there was no need to deploy Army during the upcoming Narayanganj City Corporation polls. She said this after submitting her nomination papers to Returning Officer Nuruzzaman Talukdar at the auditorium of Narayanganj Club Ltd around 11:30am. Ivy, Bangladesh’s first woman mayor, said: “There is no need for deploying the Army, as the atmosphere for polls is congenial. I want friendly competition in the polls. “I hope that residents of Narayanganj will cast vote in favour of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, as the root level Awami League is working for me.” Abdul Hai, Narayanganj district unit Awami League president, Abdullah Al Kaiser, former lawmaker, and Rafiur Rabbi, Santrash Nirmul Mancha convener, accompanied Ivy during nomination submission. Yesterday was the deadline for filing nomination while the deadline for withdrawing candidacy is December 4. On November 18, Ivy received nomination from Awami League as a mayoral candidate for the upcoming city polls. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave her approval for competing in the city polls after Ivy wrote a letter to the premier seeking Awami League ticket.
