Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith will unveil the national budget for 2015-16 financial year (FY16) at the Jatiya Sangsad at 3pm on Thursday.
The size of the FY16 budget is expected to be Tk2 lakh 95 thousand 100 crore, higher by Tk44 thousand 540 crore or nearly 18.0% than original outlay of Tk2 lakh 50 thousand 560 crore of FY15, reports BSS.
This will be the country's 44th national budget while the 16th budget of the Awami League government and the 9th one for Muhith.
However, Muhith is the first finance minister who is placing the national budget for the seventh time in a row since 2009-10 fiscal year.
The budget for the FY16 will be passed on June 30, the last day of the outgoing 2014-15 financial year (FY15).
Out of the total outlay, non-development budget would be set at Tk1 lakh 98 thousand 100 crore as Tk97 thousand crore had already been allocated for the next year's Annual Development Programme (ADP).
The revenue target for the next fiscal would be set around 30.0% higher at Tk2 lakh 8 thousand 770 crore, keeping the budget deficit of Tk86 thousand 330 crore or 5.0% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
Of the total revenue, Tk1 lakh 76 thousand 370 crore would come from the earnings of the National Revenue Board (NBR) while Tk32 thousand 400 crore would come from non-NBR earnings.
The deficit would be financed from bank borrowing, foreign sources and non-banking borrowing including savings instruments.
Bank borrowing for deficit financing would be Tk38 thousand 380 crore while it would be Tk30 thousand 450 crore from foreign sources and Tk17 thousand 500 crore from saving certificates and other non-banking sources.
The target for GDP growth would be set at 7.0% for the coming financial year when the fiscal policy would focus on human resource development for driving economy to a higher growth trajectory.
The inflation would be maintained at 6.2% in the next fiscal, lower than the targeted 6.5% for FY15.
The National Economic Council (NEC) already approved an amount of Tk97 thousand crore for ADP for FY16.
The allocation is 29.33% higher than the revised ADP of the current fiscal year, and 20.77% higher than the original ADP of the current fiscal.
The ADP prioritised the development of the country's communication systems, particularly the Padma Multipurpose Bridge (PMB) project.
Like previous year, the budget this year too will be presented on PowerPoint and will be made available on the website of the finance department at www.mof.gov.bd.
