As Salahuddin Ahmed is already arrested in India, there is no question of issuing Interpol red notice, Bangladesh police chief said yesterday.
“The Delhi National Central Bureau [NCB] has informed its Dhaka unit that Salahuddin is now undergoing treatment in Meghalaya,” IGP AKM Shahidul Haque said.
Shahidul said Bangladesh has a criminal exchange treaty with India and “we will bring him back shortly.”
Salahuddin was found loitering aimlessly in Shillong on Monday. He had no proof of identity or travel permit and so he was arrested by the Meghalaya police.
Salahuddin’s family declared him missing on March 10 alleging that law enforcers abducted him from Uttara. On Tuesday, Salahuddin talked to his wife Hasina Ahmed from Shillong. His family is now trying to get Indian visas. The Telegraph yesterday quoted Meghalaya police chief Rajiv Mehta as saying that Interpol Dhaka had sent a red corner notice to India requesting Salahuddin’s arrest.
But Meghalaya police is not clear if the notice was issued previously or after Salahuddin surfaced in India. Officials in Meghalaya said the identity of Salahuddin was yet to be confirmed. Interrogators said they would get the opportunity to interrogate him only when he is discharged.
