Samsung C&T Corporation of South Korea has shown interest in setting up a receiving terminal for imported regasified liquefied natural gas (LNG ), along with a gas-fired combined cycle power plant, at Moheshkhali in Cox’s Bazar.
Samsung’s GM Gwa Keun Park sent a proposal letter in this regard to State Minister for Power Nasrul Hamid on March 27 this year.
The plant will be set up on a “build, own and operate” basis. The Power Ministry is considering Samsung’s proposal and will forward it to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. after Hasina’s approval, the ministry ask for the final proposal from the South Korean company.
Samsung, jointly with Isolux Ingenieria SA of Spain, is currently constructing the Bibiyana South, a 400MW gas-based combined cycle power plant, in Habiganj as an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor.
The Moheshkhali plant is one of the seven imported regasified LNG power plants that the government is planning to install, with the total production capacity of 8,125MW.
