Poultry firms seek incentive in upcoming budget

The poultry industry seeks incentives in the upcoming budget for reducing business costs and boosting production in the sector.

Leaders of Bangladesh Poultry Industries Association (BPIA) and Feed Industries Association raised the demand at the meeting with the National Board of Revenue (NBR) on a pre-budget discussion held at the NBR headquarters.

Poultry firm owners placed their budget proposal for the new fiscal year 2015-16 at the meeting with NBR Chairman Nojibur Rahman in the chair.

Local poultry firms encounter difficulties to compete in the market as foreign investors are making their investment in the sector facing no restrictions, said MM Khan, general secretary of BPIA.

He called for steps to bring foreign investors under more taxation in the best interest of local investors.

Khan requested the NBR to provide some more facilities with existing incentives in the new budget so that they can produce safe food and generate employment in the sector.

Earlier, the government declared a tax holiday for the poultry sector till 2019 in the budget of fiscal year 2014-15, but no circular has so far been issued in this regard, said leaders.

They requested NBR to take necessary measures about it.

Currently, the poultry sector is enjoying a tax holiday which will continue till June 30 this year.

Poultry firm owners also demanded exemption from the 5% advance income tax on imported poultry feed.
