Rain brings relief to Dhaka after days of heat, humidity

After several days of heatwave conditions and humid weather, rainfall in different parts of the capital has brought relief to Dhaka residents.

On Friday, light to moderate rain began falling in various areas of Dhaka from noon on the weekly holiday, easing temperatures and reducing discomfort caused by the humidity.

Rain was reported in areas including Shantinagar, Motijheel, Kakrail, Malibagh, Kalabagan, Panthapath and Green Road. Residents said some areas experienced light rain, while others saw drizzle or moderate showers.

According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, an extension of a low-pressure area stretches from West Bengal to the North Bay of Bengal, increasing the likelihood of rain and thunderstorms across different parts of the country.

In its weather forecast issued for the 24 hours from 9am Friday, the department said many places in the Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions may experience light to moderate rain or thundershowers with temporary gusty winds and lightning. Some areas in the Rajshahi, Dhaka and Chittagong divisions, as well as a few places in the Khulna and Barisal divisions, may also receive rainfall.

The forecast also warned of moderately heavy to very heavy rainfall in some areas of the Rangpur, Mymensingh, Dhaka and Sylhet divisions.

The weather office further said daytime temperatures across the country may remain nearly unchanged, while nighttime temperatures could rise slightly.

Meanwhile, a mild heatwave continues to sweep over the districts of Khulna, Jessore, Satkhira and Bagerhat and may persist, the department added.
