A police constable was killed and another person seriously injured after their motorcycle crashed into the back of a dump truck in Dhamrai, Dhaka, on Thursday night.
The deceased was identified as Khalid Hossain, 24, son of Hazrat Ali of Chhoto Bangalpara village in Bhangaria union. He was serving as a police constable in Gazipur district.
The accident occurred around 11pm on Thursday near Paragram Primary School on the Dhamrai-Kaliakair bypass road, said Dhamrai police station Officer-in-Charge Nazmul Huda Khan.
Police and locals said Khalid was returning to Gazipur from Manikganj on his motorcycle. When he reached the Paragram area, he lost control of the motorcycle and rammed into the rear of a dump truck, causing the motorcycle to go underneath the truck.
Khalid was critically injured and taken to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The pillion rider, Rabiu, was seriously injured in the crash and was taken to Enam Medical College Hospital in Savar.
Officer-in-charge of Nazmul Huda Khan said police informed Khalid’s family and handed over the body after completing the necessary legal procedures. The body was later buried.
