Three members of the same family, including two children, drowned in a pond in Lakshmipur’s Sadar upazila on Sunday afternoon.
The deceased were Abu Siddique Patwari, 65, and his grandchildren Piyas, 8, and Prema, 7. The two children were Abu Siddique’s grandson and granddaughter, born to his son and daughter, respectively.
According to locals, Abu Siddique went to the pond at Patwari Bari in Shakchar union to bathe with his grandchildren around noon. At one point, all three drowned and went missing.
Family members later began searching for them and, with the help of locals, recovered their bodies from the pond.
The deaths have cast a pall of grief over the area, with relatives mourning the tragedy.
Wahid Parvez, officer-in-charge of Lakshmipur Sadar Police Station, confirmed the incident, saying police were sent to the scene after receiving the report. Further details would be available later.
