BRTA disburses Tk1.01cr to 29 road crash victims' families

The Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) Trustee Board on Saturday distributed Tk1.01 crore in financial assistance among the families of those killed and injured in road accidents in Lakshmipur.

Water Resources Minister Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anee handed over the cheques to the beneficiaries as the chief guest at a ceremony held at the Lakshmipur Sadar Upazila Parishad auditorium on Saturday.

Under the BRTA Trustee Board's assistance programme, the families of 18 deceased road accident victims received Tk5 lakh each, while 11 injured victims were given Tk1 lakh each, bringing the total disbursement to Tk1.01 crore for 29 beneficiaries.

The event was chaired by Lakshmipur Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Kathoshai Pru Marma. Chandraganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Nilufa Yasmin Nipa and BRTA Lakshmipur Executive Director Abdullah Al Mamun attended as special guests.

Addressing the programme, speakers said the financial assistance was aimed at easing the hardship faced by families affected by road accidents. They also urged the public to comply with road safety laws, follow traffic regulations and raise awareness to help prevent road crashes.

The families of the deceased and the injured beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the government for the support.

Government officials, local public representatives, journalists and members of the affected families were also present at the event.
