840 Rajuk flats at Uttara to be handed over next month

Housing and Public Works Minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain disclosed this at a deal signing ceremony at Rajuk Bhaban, Dhaka yesterday. The agreement was signed between Rajuk and Standard Chartered Bank with a view to offering loan facilities in a minimum interest rate. Rajuk Chairman M Bazlul Karim and Standard Chartered Bank Chief Executive Officer Abrar A Anwar signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organisations while the housing and public works minister attended the function as the chief guest. The agreement was signed as a sequel to a memorandum of understanding (MoU) which was signed between the two parties on July 13 this year. Engineer Mosharraf Hossain said the apartment project has been taken 16 years ago aimed at constructing 15,000 flats at Uttara, Jhilmil and Purbachal. Apart from this, about 12,000 flats will be constructed in Jhilmil and 70,000 to 75,000 flats in Purbachal, he said. The minister said negotiations were going on with Malaysia over the matter. He also expressed hope that the construction of flats would begin soon. Reply to a journalist query about the former West Pakistan acting governor Monem Khan's Banani residence, Minister Mosharraf Hossain said the allocation of the Monem's 5 bigha plot will be canceled immediately.
