“We are still waiting for the government's permission to hold our rally on November 8. But we did not get the permission from the government yet,” he said while talking to journalists after paying tribute to BNP founder Ziaur Rahman at his graveyard at Zia Uddyan in Dhaka on Monday.
“We hope they will come to their right senses, they are just looking for excuses.”
The party's secretary general made the comment when hundreds of BNP leaders and activists went to the graveyard under the leadership of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
On Sunday, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said: “We sought permission for our rally at Suhrawardy Udyan, but the government did not permit us. We do not know why it was not given. After that, we sought permission to hold the rally in front of our central office, but we have not received permission yet.
“The party has been holding the National Revolution and Solidarity Day rally for the last 40 years, but this was the first time that the government had not come up with a permission out of vengeance.”
Earlier Rizvi said BNP had committed to hold its planned November 8 rally on the Suhrawardy Udyan grounds “at any cost.”
