Shyamal Kanti denies allegation of defaming Islam

He came up with the statement while talking to the journalists coming out from circuit house after giving depositions to a judicial inquiry body set up to look into the allegation of assaults on him.
Leaders and activists of the ruling Awami League, Jatia Party, Puja Udjapon Parishad and several business organisations staged demonstration in the area, demanding punishment of Shyamal Kanti while he was giving statement.
Sources said the people who participated in the demonstration, were the supporters of Jatiya Party MP Selim Osman, who publicly humiliated Bhakta.
The Puja Udjapan Parishad, Hindu Buddha Christian Oikya Parishad and locals submitted memorandum to the inquiry body.
Gopinath Das, president of the udjapan committee and its secretary Shipon Sarker, did not make any comment.
On Monday, a judicial inquiry team from Dhaka started investigation into the incident of public humiliation of the school teacher.
A three-member team led by Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Hafizur Rahman reached Narayanganj in the morning to carry on their two-day investigation.
Narayanganj Chief Judicial Magistrate Shahidul Islam was accompanying the team members.
On the day, the team interrogated 19 people in connection with the incident.
The witnesses include Class X student Rifat Hassan of the school, who complained against Shyamal to the school authorities of beating him up and defaming Islam.
Yesterday the court recorded depositions of 12 people including Shyamal Kanti, Assistant Superintendent of Police Abdulla Al Masud and Bandar police station Officer-in-Charge Abul Kalam.
The probe body went to the district following a High Court order that rejected a probe report conducted by law enforcers.
On August 7, police submitted the probe report to the HC saying that they have found out the public humiliation of Shyamal Kanti was an “unexpected situation” resulted from a rumour.
