A school bus belonging to Jalshiri Cantonment School and College was set on fire by unidentified individuals in Dhaka’s 100 Feet area of Bhatara on Sunday evening.
The incident occurred around 6:30pm. No casualties were reported.
Debashish Roy, duty officer at Bhatara police station, confirmed the incident, saying senior police officials were at the scene.
“Our senior officials are at the scene. We are yet to determine who set the bus on fire or how it happened. Details will be available after an investigation,” he said.
Meanwhile, incidents of bus arson and crude bomb explosions have been reported at various locations across the capital over the past few days.
Similar incidents were reported in several parts of Dhaka on Saturday. At least eight buses have been set on fire and more than 50 crude bombs exploded at key locations in the capital in recent days, triggering public concern.
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) said the crude bomb explosions and arson attacks on public transport were aimed at creating public panic and carrying out acts of sabotage.
Deputy Commissioner of DMP’s Media and Public Relations Division Mohammad Akter Hossain made the remarks while responding to questions from journalists at the DMP Media Centre on Minto Road on Sunday.
