Government employees will continue receiving allowances at existing rates even after the introduction of a new national pay scale, according to a notification issued by the Finance Division on Monday.
The notification from the Ministry of Finance clarified that the existing allowance rates will remain in effect despite the introduction of the new pay structure.
The notification applies to employees of various government ministries, divisions, offices, agencies, state-owned enterprises and autonomous institutions.
Meanwhile, government officials and employees will begin receiving higher salaries this month, with the necessary budgetary allocation already made.
The government has stipulated that allowances will continue to be paid as a percentage of existing basic salaries until the basic salaries set under the 2026 Pay and Allowances Order come into effect.
The notification on the pay and allowances order was issued on September 19, exactly 1 month before the latest notification. The government had previously announced that allowances under the new pay structure would be implemented later.
Under the new pay structure, the minimum basic salary has been set at Tk20,000 and the maximum at Tk1,56,000. Although the structure took effect on July 1, the government decided to implement the full salary increases in phases over the 2026-27 and 2027-28 fiscal years.
The basic salary will be implemented in 3 phases: the first from July 1 to December 31 this year, the second from January 1 to June 30, 2027, and the third from July 1 to December 31, 2027.
Allowances under the new structure will take effect on January 1, 2028.
The process of determining government employees' salaries online under the new national pay structure is underway and is scheduled to be completed on Tuesday.
Since October 5, government employees have been entering the required information through the "Pay Fixation" option on the government's Integrated Budget and Accounting System (iBAS++) platform.
According to Finance Division sources, government employees will receive higher salaries at the end of this month. The necessary budgetary allocation has been made for this purpose.
