The Banglabazar outlet of publishing house University Press Limited (UPL) was locked on Monday over the sale of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s book "The Unfinished Memoirs."
Two employees of the outlet were also allegedly detained and later released, police said.
The incident took place around 5:30pm.
Sutrapur police station Officer-in-Charge Motiur Rahman told the media that the two employees were not taken to the police station. They were taken to the Faridabad police outpost and later released.
He said "The Unfinished Memoirs" had not been printed since 2024.
The two employees were released on the condition that the book would no longer be sold, the OC said.
No complaint has been filed with the police over the incident, he added.
In a statement, UPL said the complainants had been informed that the book was not banned.
The publisher said every book it publishes is protected by the company and that banning a book requires following a specific process and informing all concerned parties.
It also said legal steps would have to be taken to ban the book, adding that it was not aware of any such action regarding The Unfinished Memoirs.
UPL said it would take necessary steps if the government or a court takes any action regarding the book.
