Police on Tuesday morning recovered a man’s body from Dhanmondi Lake in Dhaka.
The deceased has been identified as Javed, a resident of Pallabi in Mirpur.
The body was recovered from the lake at around 6:30am, said Dhanmondi police station Sub-Inspector SM Abdul Gafur.
He said police received a report through the national emergency hotline 999 at around 6:30am and found the body floating in the lake under a bridge near Road 10.
“With the help of local residents, we brought the body to the lakeside stairs,” he said.
Police found an identity card and a mobile phone number in Javed’s pocket and contacted his family. His wife later arrived at the scene and identified the body.
The body was sent to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy, along with the necessary documents.
The exact cause of death will be known after the autopsy, the police official said.
