A crude bomb exploded in front of the main gate of the Supreme Court on Tuesday afternoon.
It could not immediately be confirmed who was behind the explosion.
The incident took place at around 1:15pm, Shahbagh police station Officer-in-Charge Md Moniruzzaman confirmed.
The explosion came shortly after the International Crimes Tribunal-2 sentenced seven accused, including Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, to death for crimes against humanity committed during the July uprising.
According to the OC, two people arrived on a motorcycle between 1:15pm and 1:20pm, threw a crude bomb onto the road in front of the Supreme Court’s main gate and fled. The device subsequently exploded.
Members of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Bomb Disposal Unit visited the scene and collected evidence, Moniruzzaman said.
Police are reviewing CCTV footage to identify the two people involved in the incident, he added.
