Lawmaker Akhter Hossen recalls arrest at July Memorial Museum

National Citizen Party (NCP) Member Secretary and lawmaker Akhter Hossen recalled his arrest and detention after seeing photographs of himself at the July National Memorial Museum in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar on Saturday.

Akhter visited the museum with NCP Convener Nahid Islam and other senior party leaders on Saturday morning.

Asked about his reaction to seeing his photographs at the museum, Akhter said: “In July 2024, when widespread repression and killings were taking place across the country, I decided to play a role behind the scenes as part of the movement’s strategy.”

He said the highest number of deaths was recorded on July 16 and 17.

“After the martyrdom of Abu Sayed in Rangpur, I could no longer remain still. On July 17, I took a risk and went to Dhaka University to attend his absentee funeral prayer. Before I could reach the venue, police dragged me away and arrested me,” he said.
