The Bangladesh Jewellers Association (Bajus) has announced another increase in gold prices in the local market, citing a rise in the international prices of pure gold and silver.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the Bajus Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring on Thursday morning. According to a Bajus statement, the revised prices took effect from 10am on Thursday.
Under the new rates, 22-carat hallmarked cadmium gold jewellery is priced at Tk19,970 per gram, taking the price of one bhori (11.664 grams) to approximately Tk232,960.
The revised prices for other categories are:
- 21-carat hallmarked gold: Tk19,075 per gram
- 18-carat gold: Tk16,380 per gram
- Traditional gold: Tk13,380 per gram
Bajus also revised silver prices. The new rates are:
- 22-carat hallmarked silver: Tk420 per gram
- 21-carat silver: Tk400 per gram
- 18-carat silver: Tk345 per gram
- Traditional silver: Tk260 per gram
The association said jewellery-making charges will be added separately depending on the design. However, VAT is already included in the selling price, meaning customers cannot be charged additional VAT.
