Over 53,000 vehicles cross Jamuna Bridge in 24 hours

Traffic on the Dhaka-Tangail-Jamuna Bridge highway increased significantly as it neared the day of Eid-ul-Azha, with more than 53,000 vehicles crossing the bridge in the last 24 hours.

During the period, toll collection exceeded Tk3.77 crore.

Syed Riaz Uddin, executive engineer of the Jamuna Bridge Site Office, confirmed the information on Tuesday morning.

According to the Jamuna Bridge Authority, a total of 53,246 vehicles crossed the bridge between 12am Sunday and 12am Monday.

Among them, 32,186 vehicles headed towards northern districts, generating tolls worth Tk1.96 crore.

Meanwhile, 21,060 Dhaka-bound vehicles crossed the bridge, with toll collection amounting to Tk1.81 crore.

Riaz Uddin said vehicles were using nine toll booths on both sides of the bridge during the Eid rush, including two dedicated booths for motorcycles.

“We are trying to ensure round-the-clock toll collection services,” he said.

The Jamuna Bridge has been collecting tolls since its inauguration in 1998.

Previously, tolls were collected by the Commuter System Network (CNS), while the China Road and Bridge Corporation has been responsible for toll collection since late 2012.
