The father of the seven-year-old girl who was brutally killed in capital’s Pallabi has expressed full confidence that justice will be delivered following his meeting with the Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
Speaking to journalists on Friday afternoon after Jummah prayers, he said, “The Prime Minister told me, ‘As a father of a daughter and as an elder brother, I have come here.’ I have 100 percent trust in his assurance and his words that I will get justice for my daughter—a fair and swift trial.”
Earlier, family members visited the slain girl’s grave at a family burial ground beside the Baitul Aman Jame Mosque in Shialdi area of Ichhapura union under Sirajdikhan upazila of Munshiganj. They offered prayers after Jumu’ah and later spoke to reporters.
The victim’s father further said he expects the maximum punishment for the killer in accordance with the country’s constitutional law. He added that the Prime Minister has directed the Law Minister to ensure the highest possible punishment under existing laws.
A special prayer was also held at the mosque on the occasion.
Among those present were Munshiganj-1 MP Md Abdullah, along with BNP leaders, activists, and local residents.
According to police, the victim child's body was recovered on Tuesday morning from beneath a bed inside a neighbour’s flat. Her severed head was later found in a bathroom. A murder case was subsequently filed at Pallabi Police Station.
Law enforcement officials first detained the wife of the prime accused, identified as Swapna Akter. Later, the main suspect, Sohel Rana, was arrested in connection with the case. He was subsequently produced before a court, where he reportedly gave a confessional statement admitting to the rape and killing of the child.
