A case has been filed in connection with the tragic bus-train collision at the Paduar Bazar area of Comilla Sadar South Upazila, which left 12 passengers dead.
On Monday afternoon, Shefali Akhter, 58, lodged the case with Laksham Railway Police Station in Comilla, naming Md Helal and Mehedi Hasan, who were on duty at the level crossing as accused.
The complaint also includes unidentified individuals responsible for the operation and management of the crossing.
Following the incident, which occurred late Saturday night, Bangladesh Railway authorities had already suspended the two officials on allegations of negligence in duty.
In the case statement, Shefali Akhter identified herself as the aunt of Sohel Rana (46), one of the 12 victims killed in the accident. She is also described as the wife of the late Akhtaruzzaman of Fatehpur village in Laksham Upazila.
According to railway and local sources, the accident took place at around 2:55 am on Saturday during the Eid holiday. A Dhaka-bound mail train from Chittagong collided with a Mamun Special Paribahan bus traveling from Chuadanga to Lakshmipur at the Paduar Bazar level crossing on the Dhaka–Chittagong highway.
The collision killed 12 bus passengers, seven men, two women, and three children, while at least 10 others were injured.
Railway authorities have stated that initial findings point to negligence by gatekeepers on duty at the level crossing.
In response, two personnel assigned to the crossing were temporarily suspended, and three separate investigation committees have been formed to probe the incident.
Officials said one of the accused is a temporary gatekeeper and the other is a wayman, both of whom were on duty at the time of the accident.
