Nine coaches of the Nilsagar Express derailed in Santahar, Bogra, on Wednesday afternoon, disrupting rail communication between Dhaka and North Bengal.
The incident occurred around 2:05pm in the Adamdighi area shortly after the train left Santahar station on its way to Nilphamari.
Sub-Inspector Mahfuzur Rahman of Santahar Railway Police Station said the train had departed Santahar station moments before the derailment.
“No fatalities have been reported so far. However, several passengers were injured, many after falling from the roof as the train was overcrowded,” he said.
Rescue operations are underway to clear the derailed coaches and restore normal train services on the route.
