Gold prices have risen again in the domestic market. Following an increase in the price of refined (pure) gold in the international market, the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (Bajus) has revised the prices of gold and silver in the local market.
Bajus said the new prices came into effect from 12:15pm on Friday, in line with a decision taken by the Bajus Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring after reviewing the overall situation.
According to the revised rates, the price of 22-carat gold has been fixed at Tk255,616 per bhori (11.664 grams). Previously, the price of gold in this category was lower.
New prices are as follows:
- 22-carat hallmarked gold: Tk255,616 per bhori
- 21-carat gold: Tk244,010 per bhori
- 18-carat gold: Tk209,655 per bhori
- Traditional-method gold: Tk171,895 per bhori
Silver prices have also increased. Under the new rates:
- 22-carat silver: Tk590
- 21-carat silver: Tk560
- 18-carat silver: Tk480
- Traditional-method silver: Tk360
Bajus said the revised prices will remain in effect at all jewellery establishments across the country until further notice.
In a notification signed by Dr Dewan Aminul Islam Shaheen, chairman of the Bajus Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring, it was also stated that a government-mandated 5 percent VAT must be collected from buyers on the sale of gold and silver and deposited into the state treasury.
