Brac Academy has officially began operations in Dhaka, focusing on quality education and the holistic development of children. The academy emphasizes values-based learning, nurturing curiosity, instilling respect and responsibility, and helping students grow into confident, capable individuals.
Launched first in Comilla in 2019, Brac Academy now has branches in Comilla, Bogra, Rajshahi, and Dhaka, with plans to expand to Chittagong, Sylhet, Jessore, and Noakhali later this month. Its primary goal is to provide affordable, quality education to children in district towns and urban centers.
The Dakshinkhan branch in Dhaka was formally inaugurated Thursday by Tamara Hasan Abed, managing Ddrector of Brac Enterprises. Speaking at the event, she said quality education requires more than school buildings or infrastructure; it demands authentic, research-based learning. Drawing on Brac’s extensive experience in the country’s education sector, Brac Academy was established to ensure children receive education of international standards.
Abed highlighted the heavy emphasis on memorization in the existing education system, noting that the country needs well-rounded and creative individuals. “Brac Academy provides meaningful education that encourages children to think and express themselves while fostering self-confidence,” she said.
In his closing remarks, Safi Rahman Khan, director of Brac’s Education, Skills Development, and Migration Program, said that while pass rates and the number of universities have increased, the development of skills and critical thinking remains limited. He added that Brac Academy aims to nurture children in a way that enables them to think independently and make their own decisions.
Opening remarks were delivered by Niveen Reza, head of Social Enterprise at Brac’s Education Program, who noted that the academy’s approach aligns with education systems in countries with advanced education sectors. Parents Fakhrunnesa Lima and Ishrat Jahan also shared their reflections. Guests enjoyed cultural performances by students and toured the campus.
Brac Academy offers primary education from Play Group to Grade Five for children aged four and above. It follows a bilingual Bangla–English system, emphasizing Bangla while gradually introducing English through age-appropriate activities, enabling students to develop effective communication skills in both languages.
Alongside the national curriculum, the academy supports students in building essential life skills. Its learning materials meet global standards while being adapted to the Bangladeshi context.
With a vision to establish a child-centered and affordable education network across Bangladesh, Brac Academy aims to prepare the younger generation for future leadership roles and provide middle-income families with a credible alternative to costly private schools.
