Police begin wearing new iron-grey uniforms

Members of the Bangladesh Police began wearing their new uniforms on Saturday, replacing the old ones.

As uniforms for all personnel have not yet been produced, the rollout is currently limited.

Speaking to Bangla Tribune on Saturday, DMP Media Wing Deputy Commissioner Talebur Rahman said: “Initially, members of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) and several specialised units are receiving the new uniforms. Gradually, all remaining police personnel across the country will be brought under the new arrangement.”

He said police officers serving in the ranges and metropolitan areas will now wear uniforms in an iron-grey shade instead of the previous dark blue and green. “For now, the new uniform is being introduced in all metropolitan areas, including the DMP. It will later be expanded to other units.”

The demand for a uniform change emerged after the fall of the Awami League government on August 5, 2024, alongside calls for structural reforms within the police force. In response, the interim government approved the new uniform.

To oversee the uniform and logo redesign, the Police Headquarters had formed a 10-member committee.

The team analyzed police uniforms from several developed countries and trialed 18 variations before finalizing the design.

The advisory council then selected the final colour through a vote from among five options.

The police logo has also been updated.
