Home Secretary Nasimul Ghani on Sunday said that there is no security threat ahead of Independence Day and Eid-ul-Fitr.
"However, comprehensive preparations are in place to prevent any untoward incidents. Risks are always present, but we are not detecting any specific threats," he said after attending a law and order meeting at the home ministry in Secretariat.
When asked about measures to curb mugging and robbery in the largely empty capital during the Eid vacation, he said: "We have taken all necessary preparations. The police have adopted a strong stance in recent days, and this will continue in the coming days."
In response to another query, the home secretary confirmed that this year’s Independence Day celebrations will not include the customary parades.
Additionally, the senior secretary of the Home Ministry said that discussions have been held with relevant authorities to ensure timely payment of workers' salaries, aiming to prevent any labour unrest.
"There is a possibility of labour unrest ahead of Eid. To mitigate this, we have taken all possible measures, including discussions with the concerned authorities. We have instructed all relevant parties to ensure timely salary disbursement, as we do not want any disruptions," he added.
